Thinking about registering with a recruiter? Having the right information ready helps you get matched with suitable roles sooner. Here’s a simple checklist.
Registering as a candidate is the first step to being considered for roles as they come up. The more complete your registration, the easier it is to match you with opportunities that suit your skills, location and availability.
An up-to-date résumé
Keep it clear and current. List your recent roles with dates, the main tasks you were responsible for and any results you’re proud of. Include your contact details and the suburb or town you live in. Save it as a PDF or Word document so it opens easily.
Your work rights
Employers need to confirm that candidates are entitled to work in Australia. Be ready to state whether you’re an Australian or New Zealand citizen, a permanent resident or a visa holder, and whether any work limitations apply.
Qualifications, tickets and clearances
Note any qualifications, licences and tickets you hold, along with expiry dates. Depending on the role, these might include a First Aid certificate, a driver licence or industry-specific training. Some roles — for example those in schools or with children — may require a Working with Children Clearance, known in the Northern Territory as an Ochre Card, and some employers may ask for a police check.
Your preferences
Think about what you’re looking for:
- Employment type — permanent full-time, part-time, casual or temporary.
- Industry and role — the kind of work you want and the roles you’re suited to.
- Location — where you can travel to for work.
- Availability — when you can start and which days or shifts you can work.
Experience that shows how you work
Beyond job titles, recruiters look for how you approach your work: reliability, attention to detail, following procedures, working safely and communicating well. A sentence or two in your registration about how you work can make a real difference.
Keep your details current
If your availability changes, you gain a new ticket or you move, update your details. Current information means you’re more likely to be considered when a suitable role becomes available.
